Toxins Around the Home

Our pets are members of the family, and as such they often spend a lot of time in the same environment that we do. This means that they are exposed to all the toxins that we are, and because they are on the ground or floor, their exposure is much more concentrated. This can contribute to health issues, one of the most common being skin abnormalities. These can include hot spots, excessive itching, dry patches, and many other miserable conditions, as well as temperament and behavioral issues and digestive imbalances. Some common household cleaning and deodorizing products also contain carcinogenic chemicals, and it is believed that they are one of the contributing factors to the huge increase in cancer among our pets over the last few decades.

When one of these maladies arises, typically the result is an expensive visit to the vet and the ensuing battery of allergy and other tests, along with other expensive and invasive lab work. In far too many cases, the problem gets labeled as 'idiopathic,' which is doctor speak for I have no idea what it is or what is causing it. Sadly, this often results in your precious pup or kitty being prescribed some sort of drug, maybe steroids or some other type of pharmaceutical, that will  quiet the symptoms, but doesn't solve the problem.

What these drugs do is to suppress the symptoms, making it look like the problem is cured, but in reality they often cause even worse problems over time. Many of these drugs carry a long list of toxic side effects that cause damage to the internal organs and compromise the immune system. In some cases, it takes very little time before damage to the organs has begun. This can include thyroid, kidney and liver damage, as well as cognitive impairment just to name a few, and can cause an overall imbalance in the animal that leads to a lot of misery, chronic disease and a greatly shortened life span.

With a bit of guidance and some detective work, we will assess your pet's environment for potential toxins. When toxins are found, simply exchanging harsh chemicals for safe natural products can in many cases make a huge difference in how your animal companion feels. Removing those toxins can also help your pet's immune system to detoxify and begin repairing the damage.

Feeding your pet a diet suited to their particular species and needs is also very important! All clients are encouraged to feed a diet appropriate to the species of their animal. Remember that if the food is processed and comes from a bag or a can, it probably isn't appropriate for vibrant health, and just because the package says it's complete and balanced doesn't make it so...

If your pet has been experiencing a 'mystery' illness or malady, I will be happy to evaluate their environment, lifestyle and nutrition, and will provide recommendations based on the assessment for how to bring them into homeostasis. I look forward to empowering you with the knowledge you need to help you help your companion have a Happy and Healthy life!
